Have you heard this old saying that love is sweeter than wine? Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. There were 6 stone jars full of water. Six is the number of man. He replaced the old religious ideas and traditions of men with the new wine of the spirit. The Spirit of Grace had come; under grace, the water became wine. And it wasn’t just any old kind of wine, it was the BEST wine. Jesus didn’t come to reform religion; He came to live in men’s hearts so we could be brought back into relationship and intimacy with the Father. In Song of Songs 4:10 TPT, the bridegroom says to the bride, “Your love is my finest wine.” Let’s get real here; we don’t always understand how that is possible, but the love He pours into us is reciprocal. It flows in a circle going into us and back to Him. That is why He saved the finest for last. He has reserved His finest wine (love) for His bride. If we can have this now, can you imagine what the marriage supper of the lamb will be like? As we drink, we become totally intoxicated on His finest wine. In other words, we become “drunk on love” and have eyes only for Him. This has been His desire ever since Adam and Eve fell out of love with Him in the garden.
The new wineskin is a heart that is totally yielded to God and has fallen head over heals in love with Him. It is hard to imagine that He desires our love and longs for it as much as we do His. But it’s true! Yieldedness allows God to cleanse and prepare our hearts (new wineskin) so we can hold and carry the new wine of His love. The new wine is always poured into a new wineskin so both the wine and the wineskin will be preserved. If we don’t allow Him to cleanse our hearts, we will burst with the new wine, and it will all be lost.
Now you know that love is truly sweeter than wine. Now is the time to LET GO OF THE OLD AND EMBRACE THE NEW. John 2:11; Matthew 9:14-17
